The beauty of going slow
Slow motion video has a way of making most things (that move) fascinating – cupcakes are no exception.
By vast increasing the number of frames recorded each second, slow motion film captures fleeting events in stunning detail, allowing us to see things in different ways. The video below shows the initial forty seconds of footage from the Apollo 11 launch. The thrust, heat and sheer power generated by the Saturn V engines is staggering.
The video below explores the strange behaviour of a drop of water when filmed at 2000 frames per second. The effect is caused by a thin film of air separating water molecules in the drop and the larger body of liquid.
Finally, the last slow motion video, shot at 1000 frames per second, shows dogs jumping for treats. It’s actually an advertisement for Pedigree, but it’s interesting to see all the details our eyes (or rather our brains) ordinarily miss.
The cupcake one is my personal favorite! Just look at all the cupcakes… I’m craving one right now! The slow motion does have a very dramatic effect (especially in the doggy treats one) and I will have to try this out when I do a movie project for school!
Thanks!
